Fun Fact Friday – Orangutans!

The Splash! Orangutan

The name “orangutan” translates into English as “man of the forest”. It comes from Malay and Bahasa Indonesian orang (man) and hutan (forest).  Orangutans are highly intelligent and use tools such as chewing up leaves to create sponges and using branches and sticks to test the depth of water before entering.  The Sumatran species is critically endangered with an estimate of only 7,200 individuals remaining in the wild.
